He was the son of George and Ann White. The War Diary entry for the events of the 17th to the 24th September 1916 records. East of TRONES WOOD. During these days the Battalion was in reserve. Working parties and carrying parties were found for the troops who were holding the line and consolidating the positions they had won. While the Battalion were in bivouacs east of TRONES WOOD they had seven casualties owing to the accidental exploding of a bomb.
