He was the son of George Alliss a Blacksmith and Traction Engine Driver, born 1855 in Old Leake, Lincolnshire and his wife Harriet Annie, born 1857 in New York, Lincolnshire. Charles was born in 1884 in Eastville, Lincolnshire, he had one sibling George, born 1878 in Haddon, Huntingdonshire, in 1891 the family home was at 2, Breeder Hills, Sedgebrook Road, Barrowby, Lincolnshire. In 1901 Charles was employed as a Baker and was residing as a boarder at 2, Dudley Road, New Somerby, Lincolnshire. In April 1911 Charles was residing at Muston Gorse Farm, Hill Farm Cottages, Bottesford, Leicestershire with his wife Emily, born 1886 in Knipton, Leicestershire and their two children, Charles Frederick, born 1908 at 1, Bridge Street, Grantham, Lincolnshire and Hilda May, born 1910 at 22, Bridge End Road, Grantham, Lincolnshire. Two further children were born after the 1911 census, Annie, who was born on the 13 July 1911 and George Leslie who was born in 1914.
