He was the son of William Champion a domestic stud groom, born 1858 in Wiltshire, and his wife Ann, born 1865 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. William was born in 1896 in Brimpton, Berks., his siblings were, Louisa, born 1893 in Woodhay, Berks., and Kate, born 1896 in Brimpton, Berks., in March 1901 the family home was at West End, Brimpton, Berks. In April 1911 William was employed as a domestic gardener and was residing in the family home at Houndhill, Marchington, Uttoxeter, Staffs., together with his parents and sister Kate.
