PD.He was the son of John Hubbard, a lime quarry worker, born 1863 in Barrow on Soar, Leics., and his wife Sarah Jane Hubbard (nee Gimson, married 1882), born 1861 in Peckleton, Leics. Bertram was born in 1893 in Barrow on Soar, Leics., his siblings were, Arthur, a hosiery mechanic, born 1883 in Burton Bandalls, Leics., and May, born 1890 in Leicester., in March 1901 the family home was at Grove Lane, Barrow upon Soar, Leics. In April 1911 Bertram was employed as a concrete worker and was residing in the family home at New Street, Barrow upon Soar, Leics., together with his parents and sister May, a hosiery trade winder. On Friday December 28th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL AND DISTRICT NEWS.” – BARROW ON SOAR. – LOCAL SOLDIER KILLED. – Mrs. J. Hubbard, New Street, Barrow on Soar, has been notified that her son, Corpl. Bertram Hubbard, has been killed in action. Prior to enlistment he was apprenticed to Mr. Alfred Lockwood, farmer, Barrow on Soar. The War Diary for today records. OLD BRIGADE HQ, FLESQUIRES. Heavy shelling by both sides at periods. Lt. Col. G. GERMAN went to hospital (sick). Battalion commanded by Captain G. H. GOFF. 2 prisoners brought to Battalion HQ by 2nd/7th SHERWOOD FORESTERS.
