Arthur Lock was born in 1897 in Bardon Hill, Coalville Leicestershire.
He was the son of Charles Lock born 1861 at Eyford Gloucestershire, a Farm Waggoner at Bardon Hill Quarry, married in October 1883 to Elizabeth Lock nee Pape born 1864 Yorkshire (died 1927), Post Mistress, Coalville, Leicestershire.
Arthur’s parents, and siblings used to live at the Post Office at Coalville, Leicestershire.
His siblings were: Ada Elizabeth born 1885 in Hugglescote, Post Office Assistant, Ellen 1886-1952, Leonard born 1889 in Hugglescote, Blacksmith assistant, Charles Percy born 1890 Bardon Hill, Quarryman, Lillian.Annie 1892, Walter born 1894 in Bardon apprentice to Cycle Trade in Hugglescote, Arthur who was 14 years old at the 1911 Census and was Telegraph messenger at Coalville Post Office. Florence Gertrude Mary 1901(died 1983), Albert Edward 1903 (died 1969) and Emily Louisa 1905 (died 1969) were all born in Bardon Hill, Leicestershire.
Arthur Lock was a telegraph messenger at ‘Ellis and Everard’ Bardon Hill Quarries Post Office, Coalville, before he enlisted for the war.
In 1911 they all lived at 12 Bardon Row, Bardon Hill, Leicestershire.

LOCAL CASUALTIES

226094 Private A. Lock joined the army October 21st, 1914, in the Territorials formed at Coalville. He went out to France with the 2/5th Leicesters, and was invalided twice from France. He went out the third time with the 7th East Yorkshire Regiment, B. Company, at the beginning of August 1918, and was killed in action on September 11th, 1918. He was formerly a telegraph messenger at Coalville Post Office, and Ellis and Everard Bardon Hill Quarries. His parents reside at the Post Office, Bardon Hill (Mr and Mrs Chas. Lock)
