The following information was kindly shared with the project by F Tilley in 2016: "He was the son of John Lacey and Julia Mary Sims, of Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire.
He was the husband of Ellen Elizabeth Lacey, of 446 Moseley Road, Birmingham- they married on 20th April 1910 in Walsall Heath and moved to Bardon Hill, Leicestershire. They had two children born in Bardon Hill, Marjorie Ellen and Donald James. James had worked as a Clerk in the Coaching Department of Bardon Hill Railway Operating Division.

James enlisted on the 1st May 1915 in Coalville. He arrived in Calais on the 14th November 1917.
