He was the son of John V. D. Butler, 6th Earl of Lanesborough, The Lord Lieutenant of the County and Retired Royal Navy Captain, born 1840 in the East Indies and his wife Annie E., born 1845 in Belford, Northumberland. Brian Danvers Butler was born in 1876 in Swithland, Leics., his siblings were, Francis A., born 1873 and Winifred, born 1880 both his siblings were born in St. George’s, Middx., in April 1881 the family home was at Swithland Hall, Swithland, Leics. In April 1891 Brian was a scholar and was residing in the family home at Swithland Hall, Main Street, Swithland, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Francis and Winifred. In March 1901 Brian was of no occupation and was residing in the family home at Swithland Hall, Leics., together with his parents and sister Winifred, also residing with the family were his nieces and nephew, Ellen G. Butler, born 1892, John Danvers Butler, born 1894 and Moyra E. Butler, born 1900, the latter three children were all born in Chelsea, Middx.
