He was the son of Joseph Collier a sanitary presser, born 1860 in Church Gresley, Derbys., and his wife Elizabeth, born 1864 in Albert Village, Leics. Bernard was born in 1891 in Swadlincote, Derbys, his siblings were, Percy, born 1885, Albert, born 1887, Docie E., born 1894, Abner, born 1896 and Harold, born 1899, all his siblings were born in Swadlincote, Derbys., in March 1901 the family home was at 55, James Street, Swadlincote, Derbys. In April 1911 Bernard was employed as a potter and was residing in the family home at 55, James Street, Swadlincote, Derbys., together with his father, now a sanitary vase maker, his mother and siblings, Percy, Docie, Abner, Harold and Walter, born 1906 in Swadlincote, Derbys. In the July, August September quarter of 1912, Bernard married Sarah Ann Kirk in the Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire marriage registration district. In the January, February, March quarter of 1920, Bernard’s widow Sarah, married Thomas Duggan in the Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire marriage registration district, they later resided at 50, Oliver Street, Coventry, Warwks.
