ASHBY

News has been received that 2nd Lieutenant Leslie Andrew Tugby, aged 20, of the Welsh Regiment, has been killed in action. He was the second son of Mr and Mrs A. H. Tugby, of Kilwardby House, Ashby, and was educated at the Ashby Grammar School. Leaving school, he went to Coventry to start the career of an engineer and for a time was engaged on aircraft work for the war. He joined the Nottingham University O.T.C. in 1916, was given his commission in the Welsh Regiment in October, 1917, and went to France a few weeks later. He was gassed early in July this year and had only been back in the fighting line again a week when he was killed on September 19th. His father was formerly chairman of the Ashby Urban Council. The deceased’s commanding officer and a chaplain, writing to the parents, speak highly of him and his cheery disposition under all circumstances, and say he had a great future before him if only he had been spared. Mr and Mrs Tugby have one other son, who is in the R.A.F.
