He was the son of Walter William and Annie Pringle. Frederick was killed during a heavy enemy bombardment on Trench 50 in the Ypres Salient of Belgium. His elder brother Ernest also fell. The War Diary for today records. TRENCHES. Between 4.00 and 4.30am our guns bombarded on left. Enemy replied with universal shells from 4.10 to 4.40am over A1 and 50. Between 10.10 and 10.45am shrapnel over A1 and 50. 10.45 to 12 noon shrapnel and crumps over same trenches. Our field guns and howitzers replied. Intelligence: 2nd Lt J. D. HILLS commenced special duties as Brigade Intelligence Officer.

Ashby Soldier Killed

An intimation has been received that Private Fred Pringle, 5th Leicesters, son of Mr and Mrs Walter Pringle, of Ashby, has been killed in the trenches by the explosion of a mine. Mr and Mrs Pringle have two other sons in the Ashby Company, which is under the command of Captain Reginald Rawdon Hastings, to whom the deceased was servant at the time he was killed.

Two Ashby Soldiers Killed

Another Ashby soldier who has made the great sacrifice is Corporal E. Pringle, who was killed in action during the fighting in France on Thursday last week. He was in the 5th Leicestershire Territorials and was a brother of Pte. Fred Pringle, also killed in action some months ago. Corpl. Pringle formerly played football for Coalville Town.
