The War Diary entry for the 16th May 1916 records. TRENCHES, HANNESCAMPS. There was considerable minnenwerfer activity, about 100 bombs falling along our front line. The shooting was very inaccurate, and little damage was done.

ASHBY SOLDIER KILLED

Private N. W. Dashwood, of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, was killed in action on May 18th. He underwent an operation at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, to make him eligible for admission to the army
