He was the son of Cornelius Clayton a general labourer, born 1856 in Milton, Derbys., and his wife Fanny, born 1861 in Eaton, Leics. Job was born in 1885 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., his siblings were, Elizabeth, born 1882 in Branston, Staffs., Cornelius, born 1887 and Bazina, born 1890, the latter two siblings were both born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 3, Mill Bank, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. In March 1901 Job was employed as a general labourer and was residing in the family home at 3, Mill Bank Cottages, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Cornelius, Bazina, Violet, born 1895 and Reginald, born 1897, the latter two siblings were both born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. In April 1911 Job was employed as a railway labourer and was residing in the family home at 4 Court, 32, North Street, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., together with his father now a travelling scissor grinder, his mother and siblings, Reginald, Violet and Bazina. His younger brother Cornelius fell in action.
