He was the son of Thomas Chadwick a plate layer, born 1858 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., and his wife Fanny, born 1859 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. Charles was born in 1886 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., his siblings were, Edith, born 1879, John, born 1881 and Harry, born 1890, all his siblings were born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., in April 1891 the family home was at 4, 39 Court, The Callis, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. In April 1911 Charles was employed as a railway labourer and was residing in the family home at Court 39 No. 4, The Callis, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., together with his parents and siblings, Harry and George, born 1894 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. His younger brother Harry also fell in action.

LOCAL CASUALTIES

Posted as missing in May, 1917, Lance-Corporal Charles Chadwick, Northumberland Fusiliers, has now been reported by the War Office as having been killed. He was the second son of Mr Thomas Chadwick, The Callis, Ashby, who has another son serving, and still another posted as missing.
