He was the son of Walter Buck a railway blacksmith, born 1863 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., and his wife Annie, born 1863 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. Harold was born in 1893 in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., his siblings were, William, born 1885, Sarah F., born 1887, Mabel, born 1890 and Maud, Born 1892, all his siblings were born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., in March 1901 the family home was at 1, Leicester Road, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. In April 1911 Harold was employed as an assistant gardener and was residing in the family home at Wood Street, Ashby de la Zouch, Leics., together with his parents and sister Maud.
