He was the son of Thomas Henfrey a general labourer, born 1864 in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire and his wife Sarah Ann, born 1870 in Wollaston, Northamptonshire. Walter was born in 1894 in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. His siblings were, Thomas a boot maker, born 1887, Florence, born 1889, Albert, born 1891, Joseph, born 1893 and Arthur, born 1897, all his siblings were born in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, in March 1901 the family home was at 12, Algernon Road, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. On Friday January 19th 1917 The Melton Mowbray Times & Vale of Belvoir Gazette published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL CASUALTIES” – DIED OF WOUNDS – LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT. Henfrey 20019 W. (Melton Mowbray).
