He was the son of the late Arthur (died 1886) and Elizabeth Davies (formerly Evans), and the stepson of William Davies. Other sources shown his late fathers name as Joshua. The War Diary entry for the 26th April 1916 records. CAMP “F”. At 7.30am Work continued at Divisional Horse Lines. At 9.30am Work continued at CONVENT ST. SIXTE. “B” and “D” Companies continued field work. Remainder of Battalion performed fatigues in CAMP “F”. Enemy shelled ROYAL ENGINEERS workshops (in A.23 central). 1 man of “C” Company killed. At 7.00pm 3 NCO’s and 10 men reported to C.R.E. for work on roads as before.
