He was the only son of the Rev. Thomas S. Stone, a clerk in Holy Orders, born 1860 in Somerset and his wife Ada Thornton Stone(nee Griffith) born 1867 in Sustead, Norfolk. Tom Pearse Griffiths was born in 1892 in Norwich, Norfolk, his siblings were, Rachel M., born 1895 and Katherine P., born 1899, both his siblings were born in Norwich, Norfolk, also residing with the family was his maternal aunt, Alice M. Griffiths, born 1865 in Sustead, Norfolk, in March 1901 the family home was at St. James’ Vicarage, Ketts Hill, Norwich, Norfolk. In April 1911 Tom was no longer residing in the family home at The Vicarage, Barrow on Soar, Leics., with his parents and sister Ruth Thornton Stone, born in 1908 in Norwich, he was now employed as a mechanical engineer and was residing as a boarder at 12, Musters Road, West Bridgford, Notts. On Monday February 19th 1917 The Leicester Mercury published the following article under the heading. “LOCAL CASUALTIES” – DEATH OF LIEUT. T. P. G. STONE. The Rev. T. S. Stone, vicar of Barrow on Soar, and Mrs Stone, have received information that their only son, 2nd Lieut. T. P. G. Stone, died of wounds on Feb. 5th, in Mesopotamia. The deceased officer was 24 years of age, and enlisted in the early stages of the war as a Private in the R.H.A. Later on he was sent to Egypt, where he gained his commission. He was educated at Norwich Grammar School and Nottingham Grammar School and Nottingham University, and took his London University degree of B.Sc. in 1914. Inside Holy Trinity Church Tom is commemorated on a stained glass window.
