Don’t miss the opportunity to view the ‘orphaned’ war memorials at All Saints Church in Leicester during its 2016 open days:

Cotesbach Special WW1 Concert – Friday 9th October

Don’t miss this special upcoming concert, which is taking place in St Mary’s Church, Cotesbach. Rothley Remembers: Men and Memorials – a talk Nov 7th

There will be an illustrated lecture by Marion Vincent MBE in Rothley Parish Church to recount the story of her in-depth research into the 17 memorials so far found connected with the village. It takes place at 2.30pm on Saturday 7th November and will be followed by refreshments in the Old School Rooms where there is a related exhibition on military badges and memorabilia. On Saturday 25th July, a charity event is taking place at Bradgate Park for the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Frezenberg to raise money for Service charities.

Knipton War Memorial Listed

The war memorial in Knipton in the parish of Belvoir in Melton has been listed, at Grade II.

The memorial takes the form of a cross and was set up after WW1. It subsequently had WW2 casualty names added and appears to have recent replacement WW1 plaques.

Its inscription reads: “TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF / KNIPTON WHO MADE THE SUPREME / SACRIFICE IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918 / IN THANKFULNESS TO GOD FOR THE / VICTORY THEIR VALOUR HELPED TO / WIN AND ALSO TO COMMEMORATE / THE PATRIOTISM OF ALL FROM THIS / VILLAGE WHO FOUGHT FOR THEIR / COUNTRY. THIS MONUMENT IS SET / UP BY THOSE WHO LOVE THEM / AND ARE PROUD OF THEM.
